UT Tips: Checking Undercarriage

14 April 2020

UTTips, Jakarta: There is a lot of maintenance that can be performed in taking proper care of heavy equipment ranging from complete equipment inspection to simple equipment inspection that can be done by the customer on their own. One of fragile components is undercarriage. So, United Tractors will share about the tips on checking the wear and tear of your undercarriage.
Undercarriage checking could be done visually on each running unit. The purposes are to extend it parts life, prevent excessive and premature wear when the component could be repaired. As a unit load builder, undercarriage is a vital component, therefore it is important to check the undercarriage. Checking undercarriage which could be suitable on Komatsu Excavators and Bulldozers of all types, include:

Checking and Tightening Shoe Bolt
To check for tighten of the shoe bolt, the inspection is carried out using a hammer. If there is a loose bolt, there are differences in the sound heard. Fasten bolt shoes immediately using torque wrench.

Checking and Tightening Track Shoe
Run the engine at low idle, then move the machine forward for a distance equal to the track length on ground, and slowly stop the machine.

After that, stop the engine and place straight wooden bar / ruler which reaches from idler to carrier roller on the track.

Then you could measure the maximum deflection (a) approximately 10mm – 30 mm between the bottom surface of the wooden bar and top surface of the track shoes. If the measurement is more than 30 mm, you need to tighten the track or just contact United Tractors.
