The DKI Jakarta administration is currently implementing the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) transportation system, the first system applied in the Southeast and South Asia, which offers the public transportation service that can carry more passengers. As public transportation, the role of the driver is vital, being the one who confronts and carrying passengers to the destination. For that reason, he is demanded to comply with prescribed procedures for safety and passenger comfort.
Besides the driver, the bus technician also plays key role in the safety and comfort, being the central factor for a bus being (fully) operational or not. The bus technician carries the duty to minimize troubles commonly afflicting the bus, such as fire, by conducting routine checks prior to operation.
PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), as the brand holder sole distributor (ATPM) of the articulated bus Scania in Indonesia, through its Technical Training Department, provides the after-sale support called the Driver & Technician Development Program to prepare the bus driver and the technician for doing the job well.
Driver Development Program
The Driver Development Program is the training program for a bus driver. It consists of two stages: the Handover Training in which the bus driver is trained to operate the bus in accordance with the safety procedure while at the same time considering the passenger comfort, and the next stage, the Improving Excellent Driving. In this latter stage, United Tractors observes and provides advanced driving techniques by prioritizing fuel efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort.
Technician Development Program
The Technician Development Program is the training program for a prospective bus technician. The Program comprises two stages: the Basic Technical Course and Inspection in which a participant is trained for daily and periodic bus maintenance and is continued with the Trouble Shooting and Repairing which provides the technical training to enable the participant to analyze and repair.
Driver and Technician Instructor Development
The Driver and Technician Instructor Development is a training program for preparing driver instructors and technician instructors capable of mentoring and training the driver and the technician. To be certified for the position, one must go through two stages, the Master Driver and Technician Program and the Instructor Development Program. In the latter stage, the Instructor Development Program, a participant is trained and given consultation so that he is equipped to conduct trainings, develop training tools, and conduct independent training.
Transjakarta Project Development Program
To maintain the best service, the education and training programs are essential, especially for developing the human resource. Through the after-sale service which brings this product support program, United Tractors is promoting the awareness that knowledge and practical skill are important to achieve efficiency in the vehicle operation and maintenance to achieve success in business.
Transjakarta, the official public transportation owned by the government, is using the Scania Euro 6 articulated Bus. Recently, United Tractors has conducted the training program for 138 drives, 7 master drivers, and 13 technicians in which all participants successfully met the prescribed standard.
