United Tractors and Scania Support Euro 4 Emission Standard Implementation in Indonesia

30 March 2022

Jakarta, March 30, 2022 – PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) and Scania in Indonesia have introduced the latest trucks and buses powered by Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology with Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards to realize sustainable and environmentally friendly Indonesian transportation system through reduction of exhaust gas emission.

PT United Tractors Tbk Corporate Governance & Sustainability Division Head, Sara K. Loebis said that United Tractors unveiled the Scania trucks and buses using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology with Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards in Indonesia which reflects the company’s commitment to support Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.20/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/3/2017 concerning Quality Standards for Exhaust Gas Emissions for New Types of  Motor Vehicles in the M, N, and O Categories or Euro 4 Emission Standards.

“Ahead of the implementation of the Euro 4 emission standard for diesel vehicles in Indonesia which is slated in April 2022 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, United Tractors as Scania’s sole distributor in Indonesia is gearing up to market environmentally friendly products. The implementation of the Euro 4 standard will not only have a positive impact on both the environment and human health, but also on all transportation business players,” Sara said in a written statement, Wednesday (30/3/2022).

Sara added, in the lead up toward the 50th anniversary of United Tractors this year which will adopt the theme “Berkarya Membangun Keberlanjutan”, UT realizes the aspirations for sustainability by launching environmentally friendly transportation equipment as well as continuous innovation to provide the best quality products and services.

According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment & Forestry, the transportation sector is responsible for the bulk of pollution in metropolitan areas. Motorized vehicles’ emissions account for 70% of the pollution of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) and Particulates (PM) in urban areas. To address this problem, the implementation of the Euro 4 Standard will have a favorable impact on Indonesia and all transportation businesses as it can help reduce air pollution.

On the same occasion, Andreas – PT United Tractors Tbk Truck, Bus & Crane Marketing Operation Division Head, explained that Scania as a manufacturer of Trucks and Buses, and an international quality brand from Sweden armed with more than 130 years of experience, envisages “Driving the Shift towards a Sustainable Transport System” to create better mobility in a bid to support business, the society and the environment.“

“Touting three primary principles, namely Energy Efficiency, Alternative Fuels & Electrification, and Smart & Safe Transport, hand-in-hand with United Tractors, Scania sustains its commitment to realizing sustainable transportation,” Andreas continued.

Scania Truck Euro 4 and Scania Bus Euro 5 have five advantages: First, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology; the aftertreatment technology helps control combustion residue that can reduce 85%-95% of NOx and PM emissions. The use of SCR technology provides numerous advantages for vehicles including a more durable engine life, excellent engine acceleration, efficient fuel consumption, and minimizing the risk of oil contamination.

Second, Fuel Efficiency. The development of engines and other components such as cooling capacity, injectors, combustion chambers, as well as technological innovations in each of Scania’s  latest product line-up, contribute to fuel consumption reduction which has a direct impact on initiatives to slash CO2 emissions.

Third, Comply B30-B100. Scania offers the widest range for the use of alternative fuels in the industry with CO2 reduction of up to 90%. Scania ensures that all the available options will produce sustainable solutions with maximum output and minimal environmental impact. In Indonesia, all Scania engines comply with the use of biodiesel fuel B30-B100 which is very environmentally friendly.

Fourth, Safety. Passenger and driver safety is high on the priority list. All the cabins of Scania’s latest generation products have passed crash tests that adhered to the standard EURO ECE R29 & Swedish VVFS 2003:29, which are the strictest standards in the world. Furthermore, the products are equipped with a reliable braking system encompassing an Electronic Braking System and an Anti-lock Braking System. Scania is also equipped with Fleet Management Services (FMS) that allow UT’s customer to monitor the use of their fleet anytime and anywhere.

Fifth, Comfort. The cabin design is easy to access, easy to operate, and equipped with on-board driver coaching that helps drivers achieve an ultimate driving experience. Scania products also offer Opticruise and Air Suspension, thus improving convenience not only for drivers but also for passenger and goods transportation.

Furthermore, Sara explained that United Tractors not only pays attention to the quality of the products it represents, but also provides product warranty as part of its after-sales services, known as United Tractors Guaranteed Product Support (UT GPS). Further underscoring the company’s commitment to providing easy access to information for business partners, United Tractors also provides UT Command Center facilities, UTConnect Mobile Apps for Parts Order Tracking, Equipment Monitoring and Complaint Handling which can all be accessed directly from business partners’ gadgets, as well as Scania Maintenance Package (SMP) to ensure periodic maintenance by qualified UT mechanics.

“In 2022, we will continue to innovate and develop products in an effort to support the realization of sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation and provide the best technology and facilities for our business partners across Indonesia,” Sara concluded.
